Mount Bromo: Sunrise above the clouds
Drive up in the dark, stand at the viewpoint as the sky turns gold, then cross the sea of sand to the crater rim. It’s the East Java sight everyone comes for, and it’s best with a driver who knows the mountain.
Ijen Crater: The blue fire and the turquoise lake
Start the climb in the middle of the night to reach the crater before dawn. You’ll see the rare blue flames glowing in the dark, then the acid lake lit up in turquoise as the sun rises.
